The Past Six Months

01-20-06

Our Volvo gives us epic electrical problems. The auto shop that replaced the alternator which then didn't work burns to the ground in a fiery explosion. I am not responsible. Truly.

Aidan turns six. He is gorgeous.

We rent a dingo and fence posts go up around our garden.

I read Aidan The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, a beloved book from my childhood.

We start a cooperative history class using The Story of the World. I can't believe how much of this stuff I don't know.

I do a lot of scheming about making a radio show but nothing comes of it.

I read these articles (1-2-3) about climate change and they occupy a lot of space in my thoughts.

I start coding a new site for WBCR using a sexy content management system. It's slow.

I tell someone I know with a web development firm that I would love a job. He tells me they might be hiring in two weeks.

We gut half of the first floor of our house. Architect friends have made plans for us to renovate the first floor and build a small addition.

Christmas is very nice - it's the first year in his whole life that Aidan isn't sick on Christmas.

The person with the web development firm e-mails me to come in for an interview. It's been about two months.

I take Aidan to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I am disappointed at the changes to the story and the Hollywood embellishments. The Aslan of my childhood imagination didn't have a British accent.

I interview. They want a full time employee who can sometimes work 60 hour weeks. I feel like I am going to vomit for the rest of the day.

Steve, who was supposed to get laid off around Christmas is getting laid off around Feb 1st.

A crack clear across the windshield of our jeep (with 250,000 miles on it and a bad axle) sends us car shopping. I am wanting a diesel that we can convert to a greasecar ever since those climate change articles.

We purchase a red 2001 volkswagen beetle, manual diesel on ebay. It is conveniently located in Virginia. We rent a car, drive to Virginia, largely through rain and fog, buy the beetle, return the rental, and drive home in a snowstorm. It takes 31 hours. We survive.

I still don't know about the job, but now we have a car payment.

I miss blogging - so here I am.

Dear Fellow Blogger,
I have been searching technorati for articles on climate change and noticed that your sites cover the issue. For many of you this is a secondary issue to blog about, and for me this makes contacting you even more important. I run a website called climate change action, which is exclusively focused on climate change; as this encompasses economics, ecology, social justice, development, technology etc... this remit isn't to constrictive.

The website URL is bellow, i hope it is of interest, it is certainly of importance, have a look and if you are interested spread you may like to link to the site and help to spread the word about one of the greatest challenges faced by our generation.

The website also features:

e-mail subscription
bloglines
an rss feed

Glad to hear you're alive and well. Also glad you got a new car - despite the car payments. Hope life calms down for you soon.

Christy, I love you. And your family. Hope to be able to visit with you - at your convenience! I've lost my beloved job after 15 1/2 years... so now, for a while, I'm a lady of leisure. (It wasn't just a job, it was my vocation...)

How are you celebrating Willie's second BD? Happy Valentine's Day, coming up. I think of you lots.
